FBI, GBI team for police cybercrime training
ATLANTA — The FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation have set up a new training center for police officers investigating computer-related crimes, ranging from child pornography to fraud and identity theft.
Gregory Jones, special agent in charge of the Atlanta FBI office, said Thursday that cybercrime costs the nation $4 billion a year. Jones said 70 police and sheriff’s departments in Georgia will participate in the training program.
GBI director Vernon Keenan said the training may last a day or several weeks, depending on the type.
Keenan noted that the Internet is a popular tool for pedophiles.
“Investigating crimes against children is a top priority of the GBI,” he said, adding “this center will play an important role.”
